Overview

Torch Bearers United Kingdom needed a public home that welcomes newcomers, explains the ministry, and makes Sunday worship, mid-week study, events, and contact details easy to find. The homepage pulls the essentials forward — faith and hope in the hero, service times immediately below, then about, events, and contact without burying the visit path.

The problem

Churches often bury the essentials — when to come, where to go, how to get in touch — under dense pages and long blocks of copy. Visitors needed a clear front door: faith and hope up front, practical visit information close behind.

Product vision

A place-of-faith site that feels hospitable online: strong welcome, readable teaching of who they are, upcoming events, and straightforward ways to join, register, or reach the team — with a homepage that reads cleanly on first glance.

Who it is for

Congregation members, first-time visitors in Mansfield / Nottinghamshire, and people discovering the ministry online.

My role

Designer & developer. Independent build for the ministry.

Design principles

  • Clarity for first-time visitors
  • Warmth without visual noise
  • Practical information always within reach
  • Homepage hierarchy: welcome → when to come → who we are → what's next

Challenges and decisions

Serving both spiritual storytelling and logistics — location, times, events, and contact — without the page becoming a noticeboard. The homepage had to feel warm while still getting people to the next step quickly.

  • Extract the homepage around visit intent — worship times before secondary ministry content
  • Use strong typographic hierarchy so Faith & Hope and service times scan instantly
  • Structure the full site around visitor journeys: learn, visit, give, contact
  • Keep copy readable for a broad age range without losing the ministry's voice

The site is live as the public presence for Torch Bearers United Kingdom at torchbearersminstriesinternationalunitedkingdom.com.

What I learned

Community sites succeed when the next step is obvious. A cleaner homepage isn't about removing substance — it's about putting welcome, service times, and contact where a first-time visitor can find them in seconds.
